Toporowski Law, PLLC is an Albany litigation boutique, founded in 2021, that represents clients across New York — the Capital Region, the Hudson Valley, and New York City — when something significant is on the line. We focus on commercial, real estate, HOA and condominium, employment, and municipal disputes, in state and federal court, the Commercial Division, and arbitration.
Our Approach
When you bring us a matter, you work directly with the attorney handling it — not a rotating cast. You get straight answers, a clear plan, and senior-level attention from the first call through resolution. We keep the firm deliberately small, so the people who know your case are the people advancing it — and we prepare every matter as if it will be tried, whether the goal is a favorable settlement or a verdict and appeal.
Big-Firm Capability, Boutique Focus
A small firm no longer means fewer resources — and we don’t simply use technology off the shelf. We have built our own customized, in-house systems around the AI models we work with: drafting frameworks built on the firm’s own templates, standards, and voice; integrated legal research grounded in primary authority; and multi-step verification designed to catch issues before anything reaches a client or a court. Technology does the heavy lifting, but an experienced attorney reviews and stands behind every result — and your confidential information is handled responsibly and kept secure. The payoff is real: the depth, rigor, and consistency clients expect from a large firm, delivered with the speed, personal attention, and cost-efficiency of a boutique.
What We Do
We are a litigation firm first. We represent businesses, property owners, homeowner and condominium associations, employers and employees, and municipalities — as well as the individuals and companies who find themselves across the table from them. Our work spans commercial and business disputes, real estate litigation, HOA and condominium matters, employment cases, and municipal and Article 78 proceedings, in courts throughout New York and in arbitration.
Experience That Sets Us Apart
Few litigators have seen disputes from as many sides as our attorneys have. Founding attorney Matthew A. Toporowski is a commercial litigator who tries cases — and who has sat in the prosecutor’s chair, clerked at New York’s Appellate Division, Third Department, and served as Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Albany. In that role he advised the Mayor and the Chief of Police and defended the City, its elected officials, and its police chief across several litigations and hearings — prevailing in each, including on appeal. That combination of trial, appellate, and government experience shapes how the firm builds and argues a case. Matt is also a licensed New York real estate broker and active investor, which gives the firm hands-on, deal-side insight in real estate matters. Of Counsel Brett T. Williams adds a deep property tax assessment (tax certiorari) practice, broad commercial and real estate experience, and his own service as Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Albany. The result is a small firm with an unusually wide range of courtroom and advisory experience.
Who We Represent
Our clients include closely held businesses and their owners; real estate buyers, sellers, and developers; homeowner and condominium associations; employers and employees; municipalities and public entities; and individuals with high-stakes disputes. Many come to us when an earlier approach has stalled and a matter needs to be litigated.
